The Department of Surgery, Yong Loo Lin Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore is immediately opening positions for Research Assistants in our Cardiac Surgery Laboratory.

Under the direction of Professor Theodoros Kofidis, our laboratory focuses on innovations in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and myocardial regeneration. Our laboratory is located on the campus of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and is supported by the University’s leading laboratories and cardiovascular research programs nationwide, addressing various aspects cardiovascular research.

Our research laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical and imaging facilities (p. Currently, we are working on well-funded projects to study the development of a new heart valve design and the restoration of the myocardium using cells and biomaterials.

These exciting projects will be good opportunities for young researchers pursuing their training in cardiovascular surgery and research, including cardiac tissue engineering, heart valve surgery and medical devices.

Main tasks and responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Prof. Theodoros Kofidis, Prof. Subbu and team members to ensure the timely completion of the project. He/She will be called upon to be attached to Prof Subbu’s team to carry out the following tasks

Main duties

  • Design, development and testing of drug-eluting heart valves
  • Manufacture of particles and cellular studies:
  • Drug coating on heart valves and nanoparticle fabrications. Cellular and medicine
  • release studies.
  • Prepare progress report and manuscript
  • General laboratory management


  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Biomedical Sciences
  • Experience in making nanoparticles
  • Experience in good interpersonal skills and communication in English
  • Good in statistics and office automation

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, seniority and qualifications.
