Osceola School Board Bids Farewell to Pete Kammerud | News

Osceola School Board members bid farewell to longtime School Board member Pete Kammerud. April was the last meeting for Kammerud, who announced last year that he would not seek re-election. It was also Brian Meyer’s last meeting.

In total, Kammerud spent 45 years with the school district. Kammerud worked in the transportation department and spent years as an assistant coach for OHS football.

Superintendent Mark Luebker presented Kammerud with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Certificate of Achievement and thanked him for his years of service with the school board association, Osceola School Board and the community in general.

Kammerud thanked the board for the award and said very humbly, “Osceola is a great community to raise a family and go to school.”

“The School Board of Canvassers will meet on Monday, April 11 to certify the election results. Congratulations to Jan Carlson and Jeff Uzpen who received the most votes based on unofficial results. The unofficial results are: Jeff Uzpen 955, Jan Carlson 901, Liza Gibson 800, Arvid Maki 799,” Luebker explained. “The 3-year term of the new board members will begin on Monday, April 25, 2022.”

“Thank you also to our community, staff and board members for supporting a much needed operational referendum question for the next two years,” Luebker said. “There is a lot of work that goes into a referendum and I am grateful that it has passed and that we can move forward with these processes over the next two years. Thanks again to the community for supporting the operational referendum,” he said.

After the meeting, SUN caught up with Carlson and Uzpen to get an idea of ​​what to expect next.

“I take this responsibility seriously and look forward to serving our children and the whole community and would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this happen. It was team work. I presented my promises,” Carlson said.

“I want to thank the community for all the support, it has been truly humbling. I look forward to serving the entire community with my fellow board members,” Uzpen said. Brooke Kulzer and Kysa Marten thanked Brian Meyer and Pete Kammerud for their years of service on the board.

Buildings and Grounds Manager Bob Schmidt gave a construction project update on the Phase Two projects and the high school gymnasium floor.

Dr. Becky Styles reviewed Osceola Virtual Academy (OVA) enrollment and cost for the 2021-22 school year. The board will further consider OVA’s offer for the 2022-23 school year at the April 27, 2022 board meeting.

The board then considered an amendment to the employee handbook for the 2022-23 school year and several scenarios for compensation for 2022-23 employees.

Commercial Director Lynette Edwards reviewed the 2021-2022 budget update through February 2022.

Approved the CESA 11 2022-2023 shared services contract.
