Multiple Agencies Implicated After Man Falls Into Water | News, Sports, Jobs

KENNEDY – Members of the state and county dive team spent much of Monday searching a winding section of the Conewango River in the town of Poland for a fallen man. water and which has not yet been located.

First responders again gathered at the Kennedy Fire Department training grounds in an area off Routes 394 and 62 before heading out on the water. Crews were looking for a man, identified as a 46-year-old man from outside the area, who allegedly fell into the water on Sunday evening while with a group in two dinghies.

According to the police, the group either encountered a traffic jam or felled trees on the other side of the river; while navigating through the debris, one of the two canoes reportedly overturned and a man who had fallen into the water did not resurface.

It is not known if the man was wearing a life jacket when he entered the water.

Kennedy firefighters were first called to the riverside around 7 p.m. Sunday. Shortly after the search began, several boats and ATVs were requested from the scene.

Members of the county’s water and technical rescue teams responded, and first responders from several volunteer fire departments could be seen along the river Sunday evening. The search was eventually called off due to darkness and resumed on Monday morning.

No other injuries were reported.

New York State Police, who are leading the search with local assistance, have been in contact with the man’s family.
