Poole College welcomes Kate Giles to the Office of Business Services as an Operations Assistant for Lifelong Learning and Executive Education.
Giles is an NC State alumnus with a master’s degree in international studies. She received her Bachelor of Arts in International Business from the University of Georgia. During his undergraduate studies, Giles also took classes at the University of Valencia in Valencia, Spain.
Giles joins Poole with a foreign service background. She completed internships abroad at the Foreign Service Institute and the United States Embassy in Madrid, Spain, hoping to add a global element to her career. After being employed at a patent law firm in Washington, DC, where she worked with an array of international clients from various professional sectors, Giles turned to a career in higher education.
Higher education is ingrained in my DNA as both my parents were university professors for over 35 years.
“I would like to think so [higher education] is in my DNA since both of my parents were university professors for over 35 years,” Giles said.
Giles was hired by a major state university to work closely with a senior professor who is the director of an academic research center funded by the National Science Foundation. This position allowed her to use the knowledge she had previously acquired while introducing her to the valuable skills necessary for a career in a diverse academic environment.
“I admire Poole College’s interdisciplinary approach to learning, in addition to the professional and extracurricular opportunities available to students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs,” Giles said. “I think these features provide a great foundation for students who want to either move into industry jobs or pursue further education or a career in higher education after graduation.”
In her role as Operations Assistant, Giles will support Jonathan Hennessy, Director of Operations, in planning and executing in-person and virtual professional development conferences and classes for attendees who work in corporate sectors, higher education and government.
His experience both educationally and professionally will enable him to develop and improve various processes to achieve our goal of providing efficient, effective and excellent service.

Outside of work, Giles enjoys spending time with family and close friends, enjoying annual beach vacations in Longboat Key, Florida, traveling the United States and abroad, and finding new shows to check out. on its various streaming services. Her all-time favorite shows are 30 Rock and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and she stays glued to the TV screen during SEC football season each fall.
