CORTLAND – Jeanne A. Loveland Barnett, 90, of Cortland, died in eternal life of natural causes on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
On October 20, 1931, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Roy Allen Loveland and Ruth Elizabeth Burcaw Loveland Haney were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Jeanne.
Jeanne married the love of her life, Harry L. Barnett Jr. on December 13, 1958; and he died on May 11, 1990, after 31 years of marriage.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania and is ASCP registered.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, where she served in the Altar Guild and belonged to “Craftsmanship, Chorus, and Coupon Cutters.” She was a member of the following organizations: dual member of South San Antonio OES Chapter No. 691 of San Antonio, Texas; Leading Star Chapter No. 79 Newton Falls OES; past president of the Association of Chapters OES in 1992; Warren Court No. 22 Order of Amaranth; Trinity Shrine No. 42 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; a registered medical technician of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists; and Past Matron of Leading Star Chapter No. 79 (Worthy Matron in 1984). She served as secretary for 15 years and was currently treasurer of the Leading Star Chapter. She was also a Life Member and District 2 Cancer Representative in 1995 for the Order of Eastern Star Harlendale Chapter 750 in San Antonio, Texas, and Past Worthy High Priestess of Trinity Shrine, from 1999 to 2000 and from 2004 in 2005. Jeanne has served on numerous Supreme Appointments in the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and is currently Treasurer of the Trinity Shrine. She loved to travel, play pinochle and do needlework.
The family requests that tributes be paid to Christ Episcopal Church or the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Jeanne’s memories will be passed on by her aunt, Mrs. Dorothy Burcaw of Bellevue, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barnett; and his cousin, Doris Bowen.
An Eastern Star service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, where call times will immediately follow from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 May 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the rural cemetery in Chester, Pennsylvania.
