We are recruiting for a permanent part-time General Assistant position in our Residential Services department, within the facilities team.

The University of Southampton Residential Services provides accommodation to over 7,000 students each year. You will join the team at an exciting time as we continue to grow our portfolio of over 6,600 rooms, supporting the smooth running of our halls of residence to provide an excellent level of customer service to our students and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will work primarily at Glen Eyre Halls of Residence. The role may also include work at other residential sites, college houses and our main campus as required.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • The movement of furniture/equipment on the sites, the storage and the follow-up of the stocks
  • Duties of University Houses deemed necessary by the Customer Service Advisor
  • Perform routine and scheduled safety inspections, including room inspections and the presence of fire alarms
  • Assist with postal/parcel duties and respond to lockouts and fire alarms as needed
  • Respond to fire alarms on site and report and escalate as appropriate
  • Project work delegated by Residential Services Supervisor/Residential Services Management Team
  • Rinse rooms/houses to combat the risk of legionellosis

Working within a small team providing services to students living in halls of residence, you will need to be reliable, flexible and enthusiastic, with a strong customer orientation.

Basic computer skills, including the use of email, will be required.

The position offers a permanent contract of 36 hours/week with a rotating schedule of 8 am to 4 pm, 9 am to 5 pm or 10 am to 6 pm to meet business needs. You will also need to be available to work occasional weekends and evenings, particularly during our peak weekends in July and September.
