Editorial Assistant, Bloomsbury Children’s Books – Harry Potter – London

Bloomsbury Children’s Books is an award-winning publisher and the original home of the Harry Potter stories. We are creative, friendly and passionate about bringing the joy of reading to children around the world. We now have a rare opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join our dedicated Harry Potter division and be part of the team that publishes beautiful, high quality editions and illustrated companion titles. This is a unique and exciting new position for an organized and dynamic individual who is ready to begin their editorial career.

The role

The Editorial Assistant role is the organizational heart of the team that manages Bloomsbury’s Harry Potter Publishing. You will be an excellent communicator, imaginative and driven, and keen to expand your knowledge of monochrome and color illustrated books.

As a member of the core team, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Brand Manager and the wider Harry Potter editorial team with administrative, organizational and editorial duties
  • Create and maintain bibliographic data, ensuring records are accurate and up-to-date
  • Organization and reporting of key departmental meetings
  • Communicate in a professional and timely manner with external stakeholders, illustrators and their agents, as appropriate
  • Organize and assist in the preparation of editorial content for sales and marketing materials
  • As your skills develop, support editors with creative tasks, including writing cover copy, proofreading, and researching illustration summaries

Knowledge, skills and experience

The successful candidate will be energetic, detail-oriented and eager to learn. They must be confident to work both independently and alongside others, manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks when necessary. The love of books and reading is essential.

  • A highly organized person with experience in office and administrative work
  • Able to demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • A great book lover with a real interest in children’s literature. Knowledge of Harry Potter stories would be desirable
  • Some experience in editing or a related field is an advantage

The role is a permanent full-time position with a salary of £24,000

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a 2 day in office / 3 day from home (or fully in office if preferred) hybrid work model. The office days allocated for this role are Mondays and Tuesdays.

As an assistant, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To help applicants who want to start and establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury is offering an interest-free rental deposit to help them find accommodation. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be repaid over 2 years.
