Beavers jump on Huskies early, don’t look back | News, Sports, Jobs

Sandi Thompson MAKING MOVES — Harrison Central’s Parker Hutton looks to get through Beaver Local defenders on Friday at Wagner Field.

CADIZ – One key stat pretty much sums up how Harrison Central’s night opposed to visiting Beaver Local. The Beavers have scored three pix-sixes in a row.

Yes, it was that kind of night, one that head coach Anthony Hayes won’t soon forget, although they would love to. Everything that could go wrong went wrong for the Huskies, whether it was the three interceptions, the three fumbles or the 99-yard touchdown from Beavers speedster Caleb White that sparked the onslaught.

The result was a humiliating 65-7 loss to the Beavers that left Hayes to shoulder some of the blame.

“It wasn’t a very good effort on our part, and I think that’s on me so I’m going to take the blame. It starts with me,” said Hayes. “We have to figure out some things and do some soul-searching, figure out what we want to do and who we are. I think by Monday we’ll have a good idea of what we’re going to do.

Harrison received the opening kick and landed his first down before being forced to throw. A booming kick and favorable roll allowed the ball to be brought down at the Beaver Local 1-yard line, putting the Huskies defense in prime position.

Then White arrived. The senior Ohio sprinter took the ball down the left side and ran 99 yards down the sideline, breaking up a few tackles en route to the end zone.

By the time Harrison registered his next first down on an 11-yard run from Mykel Quito, the visitors had snatched 25 points.

Quarterback Austin Cline followed White’s long jaunt by finding Dylan Ferguson crossing the field after rolling to his right for a touchdown. Those two then connected on a 54-yard connection on the same play.

Harrison lost the first of what became three fumbles, and as the visitor’s drive stalled, Kaleb Mays threw a 31-yard field goal that easily cleared the crossbar.

The Huskies’ next practice resulted in a bunt, but the snap sailed high and into the end zone, resulting in a safety.

Hayden Beabout’s 4-yard run closed the scoring for the first quarter.

“It was a good night,” Beaver trainer Mike McKenzie offered. “It started when Caleb gave us a ton of momentum with that play. They pinned us on the half-yard line and he’s taking 99 yards. He’s got a lot of speed.

“But I like that we’re selfless and nobody cares if I get my touchdowns. I think we had about six guys with 100 receiving yards (or more) and being able to spread that out makes us offensively diverse. .

Harrison finally joined the board when Hayden Cassidy found Parker Hutton 19 yards out with 5:29 left before halftime.

Cline followed by throwing back-to-back TD passes for Ferguson (54 yards) and White (10 yards) to close out the first half.

Harrison didn’t give up, but the wind visibly lifted from the Huskies’ sails, a fact that their head coach didn’t miss.

“It’s not a very good effort. In all my years, effort has never been an issue here at Harrison Central,” said Hayes. “Not as an assistant or as a head coach. We made questionable efforts (Friday).

The third and fourth quarters saw three straight Huskies drives end with a pick six, one each of Beebout, Tyler Prideau and Keaton Heddlestone.

A 6-yard run from Taylor Johnston capped the scoring late in the fourth.

Life won’t get any easier for the Huskies next week. After heavy losses to St. Clairsville and now Beaver Local, Harrison hits the road to face the undefeated Edison.

The Beavers, meanwhile, improved to 5-2 and host Indian Creek.

White finished with 147 yards rushing and 44 receiving with one touchdown apiece for the Beavers while Cline threw for 208 yards and three scores.

Cassidy threw for 118 yards and a TD.
